Spotlight
Tammy Rose, VP of Operations
Tammy has been with CompetitivEdge since the early days, and the staff
unanimously selected her as the first to be featured in our
'spotlight'.
We don't have a photo of Tammy to share with you. In fact, we have no
idea what she looks like. Tammy is our only fictitious employee.
Tammy was 'hired' on one of those days when everything that could go
wrong did. Someone had loaded thermal fax paper upside down, and the
fax was merrily spewing out blank sheets. The mail was late. The heat
wasn't working. And someone had an industrial accident with the coffee
machine, which landed coffee grounds everywhere, including inside the
radiator. Tammy's job description was brief: she would take the blame
for all mishaps.
We soon found another use for her lack of skills. She was perfect for
handling the marketing calls that start "I need to speak to
whoever's in charge of ordering your. . . " So we put Tammy in
charge of everything from paper and printer supplies to health
insurance and long distance.
To make her even more effective, we changed her hours. She now reports
at 11:00 pm and leaves at 6:00 am. This has led some salespeople to
ask if they could mail her information, so we had to give Tammy a last
name and a title. There are days when she has more mail than anyone
else.
We do take messages for her, but we warn people she isn't very good
about returning calls. She misses every staff meeting and is currently
growing a science project in our refrigerator. But we'll keep her just
the same.
