FAQ's Of Life

Here are the questions we are asked most frequently:

Q. How long a commitment do we have to make?
A. Your program is on a "clip to clip" basis. You can cancel or suspend a program at any time. (We would appreciate 5 days notice.)

Q. Am I reading this correctly? NO per clip fee?
A. That's correct.

Q. How much lead time do we need to get a program started?
A. About ten minutes, but let us know if you're in a real hurry.

Q. Can you go back and get us caught up on clippings?
A. Absolutely - whether it's last week or last year.

Q. How far can you go back?
A. Five years is no problem. Beyond that, there are fewer sources available. The furthest we've searched back successfully was 25 years.

Q. Can I add a category/topic or drop something later on?
A. Yes. Your program is completely flexible.

Q. Can I increase my delivery frequency if the news heats up, or decrease it if I run into budget problems?
A. Yes. Your program is completely flexible.

Q. Can I cancel my program during slow periods, and then sign back up later?
A. Yes. We will still love you.

Q. Do I have to give you a list of publications to monitor?
A. Nope. We automatically search everything available, because you never know where you might show up. Do let us know if there are any sources you don't want.

Q. If a paper has more than one edition, how do you handle this?
A. We search all the editions and provide one copy of the story. The various editions in which the story appeared will be noted in the masthead.

Q. If a story goes out on a wire service, what will I get?
A. You will get a copy of the actual wire, and clips from the various newspapers that run the story.

Q. As a new client, do I have to pay in advance?
A. We'll be happy to bill you upon delivery of your clips. (If you prefer, we can put your charge on MasterCard, Visa or Discover at the time of delivery. If you would like to prepay for a program, we will be glad to bill you in advance, with a 5% discount.)

Q. Can I change how I receive clips in the future?
A. Sure.

Q. Can you add a source I need monitored if it's not on your source list?
A. Only our database providers can add sources, and they have to sign a contract with the publisher, so we can't directly add a source. Let us know what you're looking for, and we'll let them know.

Q. Can I get clips by e-mail? Hardcopy? Disk? Fax? CD-ROM?
A. Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes.

Q. If I take e-mail delivery, how do my clips come?
A. Your clips will arrive as an attachment, and will be fully formatted using Word Software. You can access your clips using Word for Windows, Macintosh Word, and most word-processing software. If you prefer, we can send your clips as a text file.

Q. Do I have the same options for disk or CD-ROM as for e-mail?
A. Yes.

Q. What happens if I know a story ran and I need to see it immediately, even though I'm not scheduled for a delivery today?
A. We will retrieve an article for $25 and get it to you today.

Q. Can we get multiple deliveries to more than one address?
A. Yes.

Q. Do I have to have an ongoing monitoring program in order to take advantage of other services, like On The Air reports or a retroactive one-time search or event coverage?
A. No. We want to get you what you want, when you want it.

Q. If I sign up for a complimentary trial session, will this automatically start service?
A. Absolutely not. The trial gives us an opportunity to show you our service and provide a custom proposal for your consideration. If you want to start service, you'll have to contact us.

Q. Are you going to start raising the price as soon as I'm hooked on the service?
A. Companies do that, eh? We guarantee to hold your price a minimum of one year. And we guarantee to give you a minimum of 60 days notice on any future price increase.

Q. Can I get a list of your clients?
A. We treat our client list as confidential. If you need references, however, we will arrange to get you names and contact numbers, or you can post a query on our message board.

Q. What's the number one difference between CompetitivEdge and the really big national clipping services?
A. All of our clients are happy clients.
