How Does Our
Garden Grow?
When CompetitivEdge began in the summer
of 1991, Colleges and Universities were instrumental in helping us to
design our service. They were also the first brave souls to embrace
the concept of "electronic clipping". Our oldest clients
joined when CompetitivEdge had under 400 sources to clip from. Today,
with sources having grown to over 4,000, Colleges and Universities
still comprise about 40% of our client base, and range from the
smallest private institutions to the largest state universities.
Our custom price structure made clipping affordable for even the
smallest of organizations. In the years that followed, CompetitivEdge
expanded rapidly into the world of not-for-profits, adding everything
from airline associations to zoos. Universities also gave us entrance
to medical schools, which in turn led to hospitals, health systems,
and major research centers.
When the Internet went mainstream and "electronic clipping"
became a recognizable phrase, CompetitivEdge began to attract the
technology sector. We became the service of choice where the need was
for timely, targeted information and flexibility to add and delete
competitors at will.
The need for flexibility and sophistication soon expanded into other
industries, and CompetitivEdge welcomed clients involved in everything
from automotive, broadband, cellular, energy, finance and government,
to publishing.
As CompetitivEdge expanded, we were able to offer our first rate card
to public relations firms, enabling them to offer electronic clipping
as a component of their services. Again, our PR Firm clients range
from the solo practitioner to some of the world's largest public
relations agencies.
What's happening today? We're providing event coverage to the likes of
the USGA, signing up dot.coms and supporting venture capitalists and
developers. With an economy significantly stronger than during our
early years, we are enjoying growth from virtually all sectors --
which certainly provides us with a lot of variety and constant
opportunities to go home at the end of the day having learned a thing
or two.
